That was not the prevailing sentiment when I was young. Smoking was a central part of our culture. Which is why the UK\u2019s recent passing of a generational sales ban on tobacco products feels like such a big deal.<\/p>\n

This is what\u2019s described as an \u201cendgame\u201d approach. While many tobacco control strategies\u2014such as taxation or gory imagery\u2014aim to reduce consumption, policies like the UK\u2019s are designed to eliminate it entirely. It\u2019s a new approach, and no one knows whether it will work. But it\u2019s an enticing prospect\u2014and it\u2019s starting to look a lot less radical.<\/p>\n
